GE Cafe Fridge Review: One Year Later

In this post, I’m sharing my GE Cafe fridge review now that it’s been just over one year since we bought it for a new kitchen.

And if you’re wondering, no – this post is NOT sponsored!

A fridge is definitely at the top of the list of kitchen essentials when you’re moving into a new home.

When we were appliance shopping for our new home, we knew that we liked French door refrigerators and that we needed to have an ice/water dispenser, but we weren’t sure which fridge to buy – until we saw the GE Cafe Fridge.

Our GE Cafe Fridge review

GE Cafe Fridge review: a designer-friendly appliance

Stainless steel fridges will always be classic.

But when we were moving into our new home, which has bright white shaker cabinets, I wanted something more elevated. I found myself googling photos of panel-ready fridges.

The panel-ready refrigerators could be custom-fitted with front panels to seamlessly blend into your cabinets instead of standing out in stark stainless steeliness.

I liked the quiet luxury of these high-end appliances. But those options weren’t in our budget at the time.

Then we found the GE Cafe Appliances line, and we fell in love with the refrigerator. Specifically the matte white version.

Why I love the matte white GE Cafe Fridge with brushed bronze handles

The aesthetics:

The GE Cafe fridge comes with interchangeable handles, so if we ever wanted to, we could swap these bronze handles for silver or black. We probably won’t though.

I was a bit worried that the brushed bronze handles would clash with our unlacquered brass cabinet hardware, but they work well together because of the warm undertones of each material.

I also love that this fridge has a matte finish. White is always scary because you immediately think of how dirty it could look.

But the matte finish means NO FINGERPRINTS!

And after having stainless steel fridges I can say that fingerprints on a fridge are inevitable are super hard to clean off.

It’s also really easy to keep clean by just regularly wiping down with a wet towel.

The functionality:

The fridge’s French doors open wide for easy usability. There’s a lot of room for all kinds of foods, fruits & veggies, condiments, and leftovers.

Shelves are also adjustable to accommodate taller items.

The bottom freezer has two drawers inside and a sliding middle divider, which is useful for organizing different frozen foods.

We chose the model with an external ice/water dispenser.

It can connect to WiFi, and this touchscreen is where you can change different temperature settings and other features.

But the option that I use the most is the Hot Water!

The Hot Water dispenser is one of those things that you never thought you needed…until you have it! I use it literally everyday, and it’s much faster for brewing a cup of hot tea than a kettle.

Pros of the GE Cafe Fridge:

  • The aesthetic – the matte white with brushed bronze handles is so pretty and matches our cabinets and hardware perfectly
  • Choice of ice/water dispenser – this was a MUST for us
  • The cabinet-depth – we chose the cabinet-depth option so that our fridge wouldn’t stick out too much
  • The storage capacity – the shelves are all adjustable and there’s plenty of room for everything, even with the cabinet-depth option
  • The hot water dispenser – a super cool feature I didn’t know I needed but use everyday now!
  • No fingerprints – the matte white finish shows no fingerprints and is easier to clean than the stainless steel fridge we had in our old house
  • The affordability – considerably less costly than a panel-ready fridge

Cons of the GE Cafe Fridge:

  • It still looks like a fridge – if you’re looking for something totally seamless, you’ll still prefer a panel-ready appliance
  • The price – it’s not the most affordable fridge on the market, so if you’re on a tight budget this may be a con (but it’s still a great price for an upgrade to your kitchen!)

If you’re on the fence about upgrading your current fridge or shopping for appliances for your new home, I’d definitely recommend the GE Cafe Fridge!

It’s been a purchase that wasn’t just practical but has actually added beauty to our home.

We’re so happy with this fridge that we’re considering also upgrading our stove and dishwasher to the rest of the GE Cafe appliance line!
